If you’re visiting France, newly settled, or just find yourself needing medical help on a holiday weekend, navigating the French healthcare system can feel daunting, especially if it’s something that’s more “urgent care” than ER. I heard about an app recently, and I think it’s worth knowing about.
Livi: On-Demand Online Doctor Visits in France
Two different friends mentioned this same app to us this week, I put it on my phone. It’s the kind of thing you want to know about before you need it. NOTE: This post is NOT sponsored, I just like sharing useful stuff.
I haven’t had to use it yet, but from my exploring and my friends stories, Livi lets you book an online appointment with a French doctor for minor but urgent issues. Not emergencies — but all the things you don’t want to wait several days to address.
Here’s how our friends used it recently:
- One developed pink eye while traveling in France
- The other used it twice: once when her daughter showed UTI symptoms right before a holiday weekend, and again when a visiting family member came down with an earache
Each time, they booked an appointment, spoke with a French physician online within a couple of hours, and received a prescription directly in the app — ready to take to the pharmacy. You can choose your language preference in the app, although it doesn’t guarantee the availability of an English speaker.
Nutshell:
- Use it for: Urgent but non-emergency needs, after-hours situations, or when you simply can’t get an in-person appointment fast enough
- Not for: Ongoing care or anything requiring emergency attention
- Language: You can set up your account in English and select a preferred language when choosing a provider
- Cost: Fees are very reasonable — all under €50 per visit
- Access: Available as a phone app or on your computer
Hopefully you’ll never need it. But if you do, it’s good to know it’s there.
